• What is the Cardinal Card?

    The Cardinal Card is your official Catholic University identification card. It is a multi-functional identification card that provides access to a variety of services at The Catholic University of America without requiring individuals to carry multiple cards. All enrolled students and employees are eligible to get a card.
  • How do I get a Cardinal Card?

    Once you are enrolled in a class, your student record information is sent to the ID card system allowing you to get a Cardinal Card. For new students, you are required to send in your official ID photo in advance on the Photo Upload page.

    Once entered into the campus human resource system, employee information is sent to the ID card system allowing for the creation of a Cardinal Card. Employees are also required to submit a photo to be printed on their Cardinal Card. Employees may be asked to provide a photo ID (such as a driver's license) when picking up their Cardinal Card.

  • What do I do if I lose my Cardinal Card?

    You can deactivate a lost or stolen Cardinal Card online via Cardinal Card account management online service, by personally visiting the Department of Public Safety Communications office located in Leahy Hall (Room 120) or by calling 202-319-5111. To minimize the risk of unauthorized use of your missing card, please deactivate your card or notify Public Safety immediately.
  • What is my Cardinal Card ID on the Cardinal Card account management on-line service?

    Your ID to log in to this web site is your seven-digit student/employee ID number. That number is printed on the front of your Cardinal Card.
  • Can I add money to my Cardinal Card?

    Your Cardinal Card provides a debit service called Cardinal Cash. Funds deposited into your Cardinal Cash account can be drawn upon for purchases at any location accepting the Cardinal Card. Funds can be deposited online into your Cardinal Cash account with a credit card (Visa or Mastercard only) using the Cardinal Card account management online service. You can also add funds directly to your Cardinal Cash account by visiting the Cashiers Office on the main floor in Leahy Hall (cash only, no checks) or by using one of the Cardinal Card Copy Card dispensers in Mullen Library (Room 223) or Ward Hall (Room 101).

    You can add funds to your Dining Dollar account only if you are enrolled in a student meal plan. You can do this with a credit card (Visa or Mastercard only) using the Cardinal Card account management online service. Be sure to select the correct plan when making an online deposit. Dining Dollars can be used only at on-campus dining service locations.

  • What is the difference between Dining Dollars and Cardinal Cash?

    Dining Dollars are a balance of funds directly associated with a student dining plan and thus only redeemable at on-campus dining venues. For questions regarding Dining Dollars contact Dining Services at 202-319-5295 or visit their office at Garvey Hall (Room 110). Cardinal Cash is personal funds deposited on your Cardinal Card account that may be used at all locations that accept the Cardinal Card as payment.

    See the locations that accept Dining Dollars here. You cannot use Dining Dollars at the University BookStore, Mullen Library or to pay student fees; but you can use Cardinal Cash at all those locations as well as at participating merchants off-campus.

  • What happens to my Dining Dollars at the end of the school year?

    Any unused Dining Dollars remaining at the end of the academic year (end of Spring semester) are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to the new academic year.

  • Can I transfer funds between my Dining Dollar and Cardinal Cash accounts?

    No, funds associated with your Dining Dollars account cannot be transferred to your Cardinal Cash account.

  • Can I use Cardinal Cash to make a payment on my student account?

    Yes, you can use your Cardinal Card Cardinal Cash account to make a student account payment. To do this, please visit Student Services in McMahon Hall (Room 10).

  • What type of credit cards can I use to deposit funds in my Cardinal Card account?

    CUA accepts only MasterCard and Visa. You can use your credit card only with an online deposit at the Cardinal Card account management online service.

  • Can I add cash to my Cardinal Card account?

    Cash can be deposited to your account by visiting the Cashier's Office on the Main floor of Leahy Hall or using one of the Cardinal Card Copy Card dispensers in Mullen Library (Room 223) or Ward Hall (Room 101).

  • How long does it take for funds to show up on my account?

    Funds are put into your account immediately after your complete your transaction.

  • Can I withdraw cash from my Cardinal Cash account?

    No, you cannot withdraw funds from your Cardinal Card account.

  • Can I get a refund from my Cardinal Cash account?

    Yes, however, balances under $50 will not be refunded and will be used as an administrative fee. Refunds will be issued by check and will be processed within 30 days of the request. To request a refund, send an e-mail with your full name, full address, and Cardinal Card ID number to cua-cardinalcard@cua.edu.

  • What do I do if there is a discrepancy with my Cardinal Cash account?

    Send an e-mail with your full name, full address, and Cardinal Card ID number to cua-cardinalcard@cua.edu. Please include a phone number and a detailed description of the discrepancy.

  • What do I do if there is a problem with my meal plan or Dining Dollars?

    Please contact CUA Dining Services at 202-319-5295 or visit their office at the Pryzbyla Center (Room 124).

  • How do I find out my Cardinal Cash or Dining Dollar balance on my account?

    You can check your account balances anytime by visiting the Cardinal Card account management online service. You can perform many different activities here that will make managing your account a breeze. Your Cardinal Card ID is your seven-digit student/employee ID number.

  • Is there a purchase limit on the Cardinal Card?

    No, as long as you have a sufficient positive balance of Cardinal Cash on your card you use as much as you need for purchases.

  • Where can I use my Cardinal Card?

  • Can I give my Cardinal Card to someone else to use?

    No, Your Cardinal Card is for use by you and no one else. Protect your card from unauthorized use by not giving it to anyone.

  • What do I do if I cannot access my residence hall or other authorized campus buildings with my Cardinal Card?

    If you live on campus, contact your residence hall office. You can also contact the Office of Housing Services Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. by calling 202-319-5615. If you need access to any other campus buildings please contact the building administrator or dean's office at that location.

  • What is that long number on the back of my Cardinal Card?

    That is your building access card number. If you are authorized to access select buildings on campus, this number is used to identify you in the building access control system.

  • Can I encode information on the magnetic strip on my Cardinal Card?

    No, the magnetic strip on your card is for official University use only.

  • What is the bar code on the front of the card?

    The bar code on the front of the Cardinal Card is for use in checking out books in Mullen Library and other Washington Library Resource Consortium (WLRC) participating organizations. You can learn more about them here.

  • How long do I have to wait to get a Cardinal Card?

    It takes approximately one hour for your information to be moved from either the student record or human resource system into the ID card program. Once the data is there a Cardinal Card can be created immediately.

  • What should I do if my card is inadvertently damaged?

    Bring it to the Office of Transportation and Parking Services located in the Pryzbyla University Center (Room 242) for a replacement card. There is no fee for a replacement card that is damaged. However, there is a $30 fee for replacing a lost or stolen card.

  • Why is my ID number on my Cardinal Card?

    It is necessary to help validate your identity and to establish eligibility for Cardinal Card and other campus services.

  • What email address is used with the Cardinal Card program?

    You may receive e-mails from time to time regarding the Cardinal Card program including receipts for online transactions. Emails are sent to students' Cardinal Mail addresses. In fact, all official CUA emails are sent to students' Cardinal Mail mailbox. Employee emails are sent to their cua.edu mailbox.

  • Can I keep my Cardinal Card after I leave CUA?

    Students can keep their Cardinal Card after they graduate, but only the Cardinal Cash service will continue to function. All other services will be turned off. Employees must return their card upon separation from the University.

  • Can I provide access to my on-line Cardinal Card account to others?

    You can provide access to your online account to up to four individuals. To do this log into the Cardinal Card account management on-line service. Once there select the Grant Additional Access link to add guest users. They will be sent an e-mail with their own login ID and password.

  • What do I do if I forget my Cardinal Card online account password?

    Click on the Managing My Card link on the Cardinal Card web site. Click on the Forget Your Password link and follow the instructions. If you are a student, your new password will be sent to your CUA e-mail address. If you do not receive an e-mail at your Cardinal Mail mailbox, please let us know by sending an e-mail to cua-cardinalcard@cua.edu. If you are an employee, a password will be sent to your cua.edu e-mail address. If you are a guest, you will need to ask your registered user to grant you access again.
